Ages & Stages Learning Activities By Elizabeth Twombly, M.S., & Ginger Fink, M.A.  Enhance the growth and development of infants and young children with these fun, fast, and easy-to-use learning activities, available on CD-ROM or in a book of perforated photocopiable sheets. Developed to coordinate with the Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ) screening system, these inexpensive games and ideas for interaction can also be used independently. The activities address the same five developmental areas as ASQ — communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving, and personal-social — and help even the youngest children develop crucial early language and literacy skills. Early interventionists and other professionals can share these playful learning activities with parents of children who are either developing typically or need nonintensive support in one or more developmental areas. With the Ages & Stages Learning Activities, parents and children will have a new set of games and interactions every 4 months between 1 month and 5 years. Each set provides parents with a short description of typical development and five to eight activities that help children progress in key developmental areas. The activities use safe, age-appropriate materials that most families have at home and will encourage close parent–child interactions. From simple games such as Funny Face Play (Communication, 1–4 months) and Bouncy Baby (Gross Motor, 4–8 months) to more advanced interactions such as Super Chef (Personal-Social, 48–54 months) and Lacing Cards (Fine Motor, 54–60 months), these creative activities are the perfect way for parents and children to learn and have fun together. |
